A Surface Growth Competition Model of Microbial Species in Nitrif ying Biofilm at Low Dissolved Oxygen
tract:Based on the principle of active biofilm expansion, a non-steady s tate analytic mathematical model of microbial interactions in nitrifying biofilm was developed. The model can prct biofilm thickness variation and space dist ribution of microbial species. It can also explain competitions for space and ox ygen between ammonia-oxidizers and nitrite-oxidize rs and their evolution in nitrifying biofilm.
